The fiery altercation between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday (February 28, 2025) was shocking but not entirely unexpected, analysts say, with the way forward for Kyiv looking increasingly uncertain.

U.S. President Donald Trump has long been a critic of the United States’s billions in support for Ukraine after Russia invasion in first half of February 2022, and had promised to end the war between two countries without providing details soon after coming to office.
On February 12, he has spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin, to medigate with the 2 countries and has started appearing peace negotiations without involving Ukraine. AÂ move that angered Kyiv and shocked European Union countries.
